    • The History of the town and port of Sunderland

      pp101 - 102

George Robinson, Esq. was a many years collector of the customs at Sunderland. His conduct as collector was so highly approved of by the ship-owners, that, on his relinquishing his official duties, in 1822, they (as a tribute of their esteem and respect) presented him with a silver cup, value of 100 guineas, bearing an appropriate inscription. This gentleman has acted a a magistrate about forty years in Sunderland. many are the riots he has had to quell (as a magistrate) during his magisterial career; in all of which he has conducted himself with such propriety as to give general satisfaction to all parties.
